Interlock Enhancement Counseling (IEC)
If you currently have an alcohol ignition interlock installed in your vehicle, our Interlock Enhancement Counseling (IEC) program is designed to help you successfully navigate this requirement and reduce the risk of future incidents.
What is IEC?
IEC is an evidence-based intervention that combines Cognitive Behavioral Treatment with Motivational Interviewing. It is not a replacement for your standard treatment but a specialized complement to it, focusing specifically on your success while using an interlock device.
Program Goals
The primary objectives of this program are to help you:
Reduce Failed Starts: Learn to manage and eliminate failed vehicle starts caused by alcohol ingestion.
Ensure Compliance: Prevent driving any vehicles that are not equipped with an interlock device.
Long-Term Success: Establish habits that prevent DWI recidivism both during the program and after the interlock device is eventually removed.
Healthier Habits: Support the reduction of overall alcohol use frequency and quantity.
Program Structure
The program consists of 10 hours of counseling completed over a 5-month period. The schedule is staggered to monitor your progress and includes:
Four 2-hour Group Sessions.
Four 30-minute Individual Sessions, starting with an initial intake session.

Eligibility & Requirements
Device Installation: You may begin the IEC program once an interlock device is installed on every vehicle available for your use.
Treatment Integration: IEC can be used alongside your existing Education and Treatment tracks. For those in Tracks B-D, these hours may count toward your required additional therapy hours if clinically appropriate.
Referrals: We accept both mandated referrals (from the DMV or Probation) and voluntary clients.
Why Choose Us for IEC?
Our program is facilitated by qualified clinicians who meet state requirements, including specific certifications in addiction counseling and specialized IEC training. We use dedicated Participant Workbooks to guide you through the therapeutic process of changing drinking and driving behaviors for good.
